In 1960 Kiest Blvd., west of Hampton, was nothing more than a farm to market road until new homes, schools, and shopping centers began to spring up in the area. In the winter of 1960 the Kiestwood Baptist Church was organized and located on Kiest Blvd. between Hampton Road and Westmoreland. The congregation called, as its first pastor, Dr. D.D. Sumrall. Under his leadership this new church soon outgrew its first building facilities. Additional educational buildings were erected, as well as a beautiful new worship center.
At the present time the church has approximately 1,000 members, witha Sunday School enrollment of almost 900 and a $126,000.00 church budget. The present pastor, Rev. Billy Lucas, has breen with the church for three years.
The ministry of the church concentrates its efforts in five major fields of Christian service. First, is the preaching and pulpt ministry in every worship service; second, the teaching of God's word through a well organized Sunday School |

for all age groups from nursery babies through the adult age; third, the ministry of music with inspirational singing and fully graded choir program for every age hroup; fourth, a year-round special emphasis on missions and the support of missions at home and abroad through prayer and special offerings, fifth, a full time rogram of youth activities.
